Hikers soon come upon a wooden stairway leading to a higher stretch of the trail with multiple switchbacks and built-in stairs. The steeper parts of the climb have handrails to help with the ascent. The trail opens into a gently sloping meadow near the summit. A final ascent to the summit results in a wide, rocky vantage point with breathtaking views. From this viewpoint, hikers can observe a wide panorama that includes the Cook Inlet, the Knik and Matanuska rivers, and the Talkeetna Mountains. In addition, hikers can see the herd grazing below.
