Meet Up Location: Parking Lot for Mount Baldy, (also known as the the parking off Wallace

Mountain Road.) There is no bathroom available in this parking lot.

Parking: $5.00 per vehicle parking or a State Parks parking pass.

Address: 12853 Golden Eagle Drive, Eagle River, Ak. 99577

Distance: 7 miles out and back

Intensity: Strenuous/ hard

Elevation Change: Steep ~2,772 ft in approx 3.5 miles

Estimated Time to Complete: plan 6 - 7 hours

Education Topic: While hiking, we will share hunting/hiking/camping stories and lessons

learned.

Hike Description: First, we will hike to the summit of Mount Baldy & then on to Blacktail Rocks

trail. There will be some rock scrambling in order to reach the top. The final stretch will

continue with a little more loose rock/scree. Additionally, we will come upon a ridge line.

However, the views along the way are breathtaking, particularly at the top of each peak! There

are views of the Eagle River Valley, Knik Arm, and the Alaska Range

Items to bring: plenty of water, snacks/lunch, good hiking boots, hiking poles, bug spray, clothing

layers, rain gear, gloves, binoculars & backpack. Consider sunscreen, sunglasses, chapstick

Directions: once in Eagle River, turn onto Eagle River Loop Road. Turn onto W. Skyline Drive.

Then continue straight onto Jamie Drive. Turn right onto Upper Skyline Drive. Then about 1.3 ahead you’ll see the trailhead parking at the end of the road.
